REGGIO EMILIA 2007/2008 is a throwback to an earlier time when strong tournaments merited serious books. All the games are annotated, sometimes by both players, there are over 60 black and white photos, in depth interviews with Ni Hua and Pentala Harikrishna, detailed biographies of all the players, reminiscences of many-time Reggio Emilia participant Miso Cebalo, table of results and table of progressive scores, crosstables of Reggio Emilia from 1958/9 to 2008/9, plus indices of games and openings.
Marin, who has outstanding track record with SECRETS OF CHESS DEFENSE, LEARN FROM THE LEGENDS: CHESS CHAMPIONS AT THEIR BEST, SECRETS OF ATTACKING CHESS, BEATING THE OPEN GAMES, and A SPANISH OPENING REPERTOIRE FOR BLACK, does an excellent job of annotating the majority of the games for this Category 16 (close to 2650 average) event. Each of the other participants also annotates at least one of their games. As a bonus Marin analyzes four fragments from Kortchnoi’s earlier games showing his virtuosity in defense and Ni Hua annotates a win from his victory at Reggio Emilia 2008/9.
This is a great book that would make a perfect gift for any chessplayer.
